Five local barns are among those named Horse Farms of Distinction for 2017 by a statewide agency.
High Tail Acres and Lalobarun Ranch, both of Newbury, Byfield’s Barnyard Maples, Sons of the Wind Farm of Merrimac, and Groveland’s Hunters Haven Farm are among 35 recipients of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation’s award.
In a press release, the federation’s equine committee chairman John Dougherty praised the farms for what they do to “enhance the positive image of the Massachusetts horse industry.”
For the local farms, the award is affirmation of a life-long commitment to loving horses and teaching others to do the same. Each said they got the “horse bug” early, some catching it from their families.
