Lusitanos for Sale

Sons of the Wind Farm in Merrimac, MA is known for its dynamic environment. Aspects that are vital elements contributing to the farm’s overall ambience include individual training classes and group lessons that fine tune the skills of the Schoolmasters, community and charitable events and shows, and a portfolio of fine Lusitanos for sale. To maintain the farm’s high level of vibrancy, a regular inflow of Lusitanos is required and this stems from the breeding farm in Brazil.

Lusitano Breeding Program

Since 1995 Vitor has been importing the finest quality horses to the United States from all over the world, including Portugal, Spain and Brazil. These three countries are renowned for producing the best of breed Lusitanos. Today, Sons of the Wind Farm has a unique partnership with a premiere breeding farm in São Paulo, Brazil located on over 120 acres of private land in a picturesque countryside with gently rolling hills and deep lush green pastures. With near perfect tropical weather year round and an abundance of natural resources, this peaceful setting is the ideal location for breeding, training and developing world class Lusitanos. Vitor’s classical dressage training is based on a “back to fundamentals” philosophy which he also applies to his breeding program. Vitor quickly learned the fundamentals and essentials of successful breeding. Balanced with a love for Lusitanos that is unequaled and a great deal of research studying successful breeding programs, Vitor identified and carefully chose the Sires and Dams that would become the foundation of the Sons of the Wind Farm breeding program.

In 2016, Vitor purchased the nine (9) top broodmares from the world renowned breeding farm, Haras Modelo. Vitor had previously partnered with Haras Modelo for several years and knew each of these mares and their offspring personally. Each mare has been deliberately selected based on pedigree, athleticism, conformation and character. They consist of two warmbloods and seven Lusitanos.

Quality Stallions & Mares
To maintain the integrity of the magnificent Lusitanos at the farm, Vitor chooses only sires of unparalleled quality such as Olympic Rubi AR, Portugal’s number one Grand Prix horse and the renowned Diamante Negro do Juliana from Spain.

Each of these carefully selected mares and stallions have desirable qualities that will not only be passed on, but will give their foals improved and unique characteristics.

The high standards for the breeding process are established and maintained throughout by knowledgeable, experienced and multi-disciplined veterinarians, who not only have expertise in all areas of veterinary medicine, but have highly sophisticated skills in the field of equine reproduction and embryo transfer. With state-of-the art equipment along with proper nutritional and medical care, the mares are regularly monitored to ensure the highest levels of breeding success. The produced offspring are assigned to initials HM, which represents Haras Modelo.
